The two things players are actually asking about right now are the Switch 2 Edition, which already shipped, and update 1.1, which has not. Here is where each stands.
Switch 2 Edition — out now, free
Balatro got a free Switch 2 Edition in February 2026. It is a straight upgrade for anyone who owns the original Switch copy, with two changes that matter:
- 60 FPS. The original Switch version was the only build of Balatro locked to 30 FPS. The Switch 2 Edition removes that cap, so it finally feels as responsive as the PC and other console versions.
- Mouse Mode. Balatro is a point-and-click game at heart, and the Switch 2's mouse-style input fits it better than a stick-and-cursor port usually does. It is optional — traditional controls still work.
One caveat: save data does not transfer between the Switch and Switch 2 versions. If you have a deep unlock history on the original copy, it stays there.
Update 1.1 — delayed to 2026, no firm date
The big content update, version 1.1, is still the thing the community is waiting on. localthunk pushed it to 2026 and set a "done when it's done" timeline rather than a release date. What is confirmed:
- It is coming — the delay is about scope and polish, not cancellation.
- It will be a free update on every platform.
- No month has been committed to.
Until 1.1 lands, the live game stays on the 1.0.1 series.
Current build: 1.0.1o
The shipping version is 1.0.1o-FULL. The recent version bumps have mostly carried the Friends of Jimbo crossover content — cosmetic decks and card backs from other games. These do not change scoring; they ride along with the builds that keep the game current.
The last update that actually moved the meta was the 1.0.1f balance patch (engine update, accessibility options, sticker UI changes, and the Sinful Joker nerfs). The detailed breakdown is on the patch notes page.
