What is the difference between an enhancement, an edition and a seal?

A card can hold one of each at the same time. The enhancement changes the card's base type (Bonus, Mult, Glass, Steel, and so on). The edition adds a scoring or economy effect on top (Foil, Holographic, Polychrome, Negative). The seal triggers an effect when the card is played, scored, discarded or held (Gold, Red, Blue, Purple).

What is the best card enhancement in Balatro?

Glass (X2 Mult) gives the highest scoring per card, at the cost of a 1 in 4 chance to shatter. Steel (X1.5 Mult while held in hand) is the safest multiplier and the core of Baron and Mime builds. Stone (+50 Chips, no rank or suit) is strong for raw chips and immune to suit-based Boss Blinds.

What does Polychrome do in Balatro?

Polychrome is an edition that gives X1.5 Mult when the card scores. It stacks multiplicatively, so it is one of the strongest single modifiers in the game. It can appear on playing cards and on Jokers.

What does a Red Seal do?

A Red Seal retriggers the card, so it scores twice instead of once, doubling whatever Chips, Mult and other effects it contributes. On an enhanced or editioned card, that doubling applies to everything on it.

How do I add enhancements, editions and seals to a card?

Tarot cards apply enhancements (The Chariot makes Steel, Justice makes Glass, The Tower makes Stone, and so on). Spectral cards apply seals and card editions (Deja Vu makes a Red Seal, Aura adds Foil, Holographic or Polychrome). The Hone and Glow Up vouchers raise how often editions appear in the shop.

Steel + Red Seal
